Roll the dice and let chance enter your writing process with a practice invented nearly one hundred years ago. Using the Dadaist cut up technique, we will take scissors to paper to create poetry in this two-part workshop. The first week, we will use texts and images to experiment with written collage. The second week, we will cut into our own writing, allowing the fates to show us the essence of our work by reducing and rearranging our words. Whether you prefer poetry or prose, you'll find that cut ups help create unexpected associations and images that can stand on their own or be incorporated into a longer piece.
This process is a lot of fun. But don't be fooled. It's also a great tool for sharpening your prose, helping you edit, and bringing insight into your writing projects and your real life.
