Short stories must contain all the elements of a novel: strong characters who undergo transformation, clear plot points, a clear climatic moment and a resolution. Anything else is a vignette, a "slice of life". How to do all that in such a short space?
We'll study the elements of a story, write to prompts to guide you into scenes that hone those elements, and we'll use butcher paper to map our stories start to finish. In between, we'll write and critique scenes. Your story will be polished and ready for submission
Writers should come with the start of a short story (an idea for a character or plot and a few pages already written).
