Under certain circumstances of financial hardship, PDX Writers occasionally offers reduced or waived workshop fees. These are generally granted only to writers who are current or past attendees our workshops and need to be approved prior to registering. If you feel you might qualify, email us with an explanation of your situation as well as which workshop you want to attend.
Current Scholarship Opportunity
The Cecilie Scott – Betsy Milligan Memorial Scholarship
PDX Writers introduces a new scholarship for the writer who is ready to take their writing and/or a specific project to the next level without financial constraint. The scholarship allows the writer to take unlimited PDX Writers workshops within the six-month scholarship period.
Send a cover letter which addresses the following criteria
Must be a current PDX Writers workshop attendee;
Have a financial need that prevents them from engaging more fully;
Show desire for deepening their writing practice through PDX Writers workshops;
Indicate which workshops writer would attend.
Include a five-page example of your writing.
If awarded, writer will sign a contract stating they will fully participate in workshops during their scholarship tenure and complete a final report.
Writer will be required to send a final one to two-page report at the conclusion of the scholarship which examines the impact the workshops had on the writer/writing. The report can include writing samples in addition to the report.
DEADLINE: February 28, 2017. Scholarships begin on March 1 and run through August 30, 2017. They include all workshops and day long retreats. Scholarships do not include weekend retreats, meals, or overnight stays at day long retreats. Send you entry to email@example.com.
Cecilie Scott, author of Knowing Bodies, wrote with PDX Writers for many years until her death in 2014. She travels in our hearts on each of our train retreats, since she never missed a one. Betsy Milligan was a collage artist who discovered her passion for writing 2009 through PDX Writers and wrote with us until her death in 2014. If you’ve written in the PDX Writers Studio, you’ve seen the collage she made especially for us hanging on the wall above the couch. She titled it “Writer’s Island.” We’ll remember both of these great writers with this scholarship.
